Prätschalp-Winterwanderweg
Overview
Intro
Round tour above Arosa, past the history-charged Guisanplatz and over the Scheidegg. This winter hike will offer you a wide view over the elongated valley Schanfigg.
Description
The hike, which is rich in views, leads from Prätschli initially through the open forest to Lake Upper Prätsch. Quite close to the lake, the history-charged Guisanplatz can be found. During the second world war, General Henri Guisan (1874–1960) participated in the 1st of August celebrations here and inspected his troops partaking in sports contests. A commemorative plaque reminds nowadays of this historical event.
On the way to Prätschalp, one can spot the settlement Medergen, Mt. Weissfluhjoch and the high valleys Sapün and Fondei. Alp Prätsch, which will then be reached, consists of 250 hectares productive land and belongs to the municipality of Chur. About 100 cows spend their summer here every year. In winter local specialities can be enjoyed in the Prätschalp Beizli.
Over the view point Rot Tritt, from where you can even spot the Capital of the canton, the path meanders a bit steeper to Scheidegg. This is the highest point of the hike and one can enjoy an amazing panoramic view over the valley of Schanfigg and from here the path leads back to Prätschli.
