Intro

The snowshoe trail in the home of Swiss wrestling king Kilian Wenger leads over Alpine terrain and through mountain forests. Your constant companion along the way is the impressive, broad view of the peaks of the Diemtigtal Nature Park and the Simmental Valley. The terrain features a moderate incline with a few steeper passages; there are no exposed sections.

Description

The approximately five and a half kilometre long snow shoe trail on the sunny terrace of the Diemtigtal Valley begins at the Springenboden restaurant and the Gsässweid guest house. The trail ascends through a lightly forested area high up to the Otteschwand Alp and continues over snowy Alpine terrain to the highest point, Neuenstift (1,657 metres above sea level). Once there, it’s worth taking a moment to rest and enjoy the panoramic view of the Diemtigtal and Simmental valleys.

The descent continues over snowy meadows, past wintery Alpine huts and mighty sycamore trees; all evidence of the Alpine agriculture industry which is so important for the Diemtigtal Nature Park. The final section follows part of the Schwinger Trail and past a sheltered fire pit with tables and benches, Schwinger fountain and toilets.

Back at Springenboden and it becomes absolutely clear that you are in the home of the king of Swiss wrestling Kilian Wenger: If you like, you can visit the pavilion of the wrestling kings, view their memorabilia or delve into the reference books on the Swiss wrestling festivals. Also on show are the lifelike wooden bull “Arnold” from Frauenfeld and even a life-size model of the Swiss wrestling king himself.

There are also two restaurants at Springenboden – the ideal place to retreat after an eventful tour, as there is nowhere to get food on the route. The circular tour leads over moderately steep terrain, with some more precipitous passages on the ascent and descent. A medium level of fitness is therefore required for the tour; however, there are no exposed areas.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
