An entertaining showshoe tour to the Tscheurig huts with a view of the end of the valley and the imposing Weisshorn. Lucky visitors can even watch chamois and ibexes on the opposite side of the valley.
Description
The Tscheurig snowshoe trail starts in Thalkirch. Before setting off, it’s worth taking a look inside the little village church, an impressive example of fine simplicity. The trail then branches off to the right from the valley road opposite the Alte Post postbus stop.
Always sloping gently uphill, the route leads to the lower Tscheurig huts and onwards until Alp Tscheurig. From here, the gradient steepens somewhat and the distinct patches of land at the foot of the Tälihorn become more and more visible. At an altitude of about 2,100 metres, hikers enjoy a magnificent view of the end of the valley and the imposing Wisshorn. Keen observers may even see ptarmigans in this area.
After crossing the Gasslitobel, the route descends via Alp Guw to the Turrahus mountain inn. In the Turra exhibition stable right next door, visitors can learn fascinating facts about the settlement of the Safien Valley and its typical wooden buildings and stables. They can even get involved and try their hand at laying a shingle roof. Those who like to take it easy can satisfy their hunger with fine regional delicacies in the nearby Turrahus mountain inn or the Gasslihof farm pub.
