Surrounded by limestone mountains with sheer faces, the route encircles the romantic Schwarzsee. When the layer of ice is thick enough, you are officially permitted to venture onto the lake. A unique experience for winter walkers!
Description
The majestic Kaiseregg stands proudly on the east bank of the Schwarzee. The Spitzfluh stands to the south while the Schwyberg chain creates an imposing presence to the west. This impressive landscape encircles the lake, which is just 10 metres deep, and forms the backdrop for the walking trail. The black water is immediately obvious. According to legend, the water of the Sense Oberland mountain lake is as dark as it is because a giant bathed its feet in it one day.
But sometimes a white layer of snow and ice settles on the fish-filled waters. As soon as the layer of ice is stable enough, the frozen Schwarzsee is open to ice skaters, cross-country skiers and walkers. So anyone who wants to extend their walk a little can strap on their skis and head across the lake. Another tip is to make a 15-minute detour to the Seeweidbach waterfall. This freezes in winter, creating a unique spectacle. A cave along the way is perfect for a brief moment of relaxation. Another curiosity is the Pürrena viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the Fribourg Pre-Alps and the whole of the Schwarzsee.
There are various restaurants next to the lake. The route is regularly maintained when there is enough snow and is also suitable for pushchairs or toboggans.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
