Kolonialzeitliche Fotografie in der Gegenwartskunst

Wie kann Kunst dazu beitragen, Geschichte vielstimmig zu erzählen? Welche verborgenen Erzählungen tragen historische Bilder in sich? Und wie bringen Kunstschaffende sie heute an die Oberfläche? MitFast ein Paradieszeigt das Museum Rietberg eine Gruppenausstellung, die ein Phänomen in der globalen zeitgenössischen Kunst erstmals umfassend beleuchtet. International gefeierte Künstler*innen in Afrika, den Amerikas, Asien, Australien und Ozeanien sowie in ihren Diasporas setzen sich darin mit kolonialzeitlichem Bildmaterial auseinander.

Poetisch, kritisch und visionär erkunden ihre Werke, wie Bilder bis heute Identität, Geschichte und Zugehörigkeit prägen – und neu erzählt werden können. Dabei entfalten die Arbeiten eine heilende Kraft, die über historische Kontexte hinausweist und uns alle berührt.
