Overview
Intro
On the Saturday of the Chilbi, the “Woldmanndli” make their way from the Gurschenwald into the village, putting on an impressive show in Andermatt.
On the Saturday of the Chilbi, Andermatt becomes loud and lively: Dozens of “Woldmanndli” make their way down from the Gurschenwald into the village. With the sound of their cowbells and the blare of their goat horns, the little forest men put on an impressive spectacle.
This traditional custom commemorates the workers and day laborers who once tended the Gurschenwald and protected it from unauthorized logging. The protected forest above Andermatt has been maintained since 1397 and continues to protect the village from avalanches to this day.
In recent years, this ancient custom has regained its significance and delights numerous locals and visitors alike. Experience a piece of living Urschn tradition right in the heart of Andermatt!
