Intro

The Kunsthaus Zürich is the largest art museum in Switzerland. In the classic Moser Building and David Chipperfield's modern new building, you will discover works from the Middle Ages to the present day.

The Kunsthaus Zürich at a glance

The Kunsthaus Zürich consists of two buildings: The classic Moser building from 1910 and the Chipperfield extension together offer 11,500 square metres of exhibition space. The collection includes works from the Middle Ages to the present day, including Impressionism, Classical Modernism and Contemporary Art.

What to experience

Collection: From Monet to the present day

At the Kunsthaus, you'll discover works by Monet, Cézanne, Renoir and van Gogh, as well as artists of classical modernism and contemporary art from the 1960s onwards. The museum houses the world's most important museum collection of Giacometti and the largest collection of Edvard Munch paintings outside Norway.

  • Good to know: Audio guides for adults and children aged 6 and over are available at the museum.
  • Tip: Free admission to the collections with the ZürichCard; Exhibitions with extra charge.

Architecture: Classic meets modern

Two building eras meet at Heimplatz: The neoclassical Moser Building and the clear stone block by David Chipperfield. The central entrance hall of the Chipperfield building is open to the public. For architecture fans, the Kunsthaus offers guided tours of both buildings.

  • Good to know: The Moser and Chipperfield buildings are connected by an underground passage.
  • Tip: Free access to the "Garden of Art", even outside the museum's opening hours.

The Kunsthaus for families

In the Kunsthaus, children discover 800 years of art history – from medieval paintings to digital contemporary art. Special workshops, an offer for children's birthday parties and regular events make the museum a destination for the whole family.

  • Good to know: Strollers are allowed in the exhibition rooms.
  • Tip: The children's audio guide is free of charge – the works are recognisable by the penguin sign.
