Intro

The trail leads along an old smuggler's route to the Col du Cou, where there is a border guard house. The view extends to the Savoy alps. Then you follow a wide high-level path past alpine farms into the wooded Val de Morgins.

Vallon de They

Description

Although Barme is situated in the Illiez valley, you won't notice anything of the larger villages such as Champery or Val d'Illiez in this hamlet. Located in an idyllic setting, it is the starting point for sporting activities such as climbing, mountain biking or hiking. Ehringer cows graze around the chalets, which have been converted into restaurants, B&Bs or small hotels. In the past, the village was a stronghold for smugglers. This is not surprising, considering that it is located only a few metres from the French border. What used to be true for smugglers is now true for birds. The region is heavily frequented by millions of migratory birds on their way south.

The path dips into the forest almost straight away. On a ridge, you climb up gently to Croix d'Increne and on to Berthe to the border at the Col de Cou. It takes just under two hours to reach the border with France. The view of the seven peaks of the Dents du Midi on one side and the Savoy alps on the other is magnificent.

Then the route descends a little, only to ascend again later. You pass Le Lapisa, a mountain inn, and later Portes du Soleil, the crossing from the Val I'Illiez into the Val de Morgins. Trails and natural roads alternate constantly. After the Portes du Soleil pass, the route descends to Sassey. From here it follows the course of the Vièze de Morgins stream. Although technically easy, the almost seven-hour hike to sunny Morgins nevertheless requires a good level of fitness.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
