Napf Bike
Overview
Intro
Biking on the scenic crests of the Emmental hills and through deep ravines to Stächelegg on the Napf. An overnight stop at the summit inn is recommended, particularly impressive panorama at sunset and sunrise.
Description
The second stage begins in Langnau im Emmental. The hilly landscape is of course famous for the cheese of the same name, which is made by hand in almost 100 village cheese dairies in the area of origin. The milk for Emmental AOP comes from more than 2200 farms in the region.
This stage begins at the station in Langnau im Emmental, in the heart of the beautiful hilly and wooded landscape. A gentle climb of around ten kilometres and 500 metres in altitude links the valley to the Lüderenalp. First on a surfaced road and then on a gravel trail, you go ever deeper into the hills, pedalling past a number of farms and expansive meadows.
The Lüderenalp welcomes you with a fantastic view into the Bernese Alps. A short descent to Churzeneigrabe follows, before you climb the same altitude again to Chuerethübeli. Even if it’s one of the many foggy days rather than sunny, the bike tour is still worthwhile: There’s something particularly mystical about the landscape on these days.
You continue on to Lushüttenalp, accompanied by views of the Schrattenflue, Schimberig and Central Swiss Alpine peaks. A little further on, the Lushütte restaurant is an inviting spot to take a break. You’ve now completed around two-thirds of a stage, so have earned a rest.
The route then gets technically demanding again, with a descent and ascent where you have to push your bike. After Hochänzi, there’s a fast-paced descent covering over 600 metres in altitude to Fankhaus (Trub). This bypasses the Napf mountain. It can be reached via the hiking trail as an alternative route, but once again, it’s barely possible to ride along it. After Fankhaus comes the final climb of a good 500 metres in altitude to the end of the stage in Stächelegg. It too lies in the heart of the Emmental valley, meaning that from her, you also have a magnificent view over the hill crests and the Alps behind them.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
