Intro

Description
Neuchâtel is famous for its medieval old town and castle. Beautifully situated on Lake Neuchâtel and in the Jura hills, it is the third-largest city in French-speaking Switzerland and the cantonal capital. You start at the station, with a pleasant warm-up section along the highest residential areas. The views of the lake and Alps are stunning.
After this, it gets steeper for a short stretch. From the gravel path and in pleasant shade, you start the long descent in the forest down to the ridge of the Chaumont. Luckily, it’s no longer so steep here. After climbing Neuchâtel’s local mountain, there’s a further slight ascent through wooded areas and across pastures to Chuffort.
After this, on the descent, you soon reach Le Pâquier. Alternating through sections of forest, across Jura pastures, past stables and cowsheds, this stage nears its waypoint at La Vue-des-Alpes. The view of the Alpine chain from here is magnificent. After more than 35 kilometres and almost 1,500 metres of elevation, the restaurant here is an inviting spot to take a well-earned break.
Suitably refreshed, it’s time for the last stretch. However, the stage is long and physically challenging. From La Vue-des-Alpes, you still have around 13 kilometres and 250 metres of elevation ahead of you. Biking over Jura pastures, you reach Tete de Ran, then continue down into the valley after the pass on a beautiful trail. There’s a last brief climb, then you can really let go until La Chaux-de-Fonds. The city, which has a chessboard-like layout, invites you to take a final break at one of its many cafes and restaurants.
