Description
Langis above Lake Sarnen is first and foremost a popular winter sports resort with cross-country ski trails, snowshoe hiking trails and winter hiking trails. Nature-lovers are in on the secret that the Glaubenberg moorlands are the biggest in Switzerland, covering 130 km2, making this place perfect for a summer getaway. The moorlands stretch from the Pilatus massif to the Glaubenbielen Pass. With their isolated clusters of bushes and trees, they provide favourable living conditions for grouse (wood, black and hazel grouse). A somewhat rarer sight are the lynx, who also call this region home.
The route starts at Berghotel Langis, rising to 1,543 metres above sea level along the road to the Glaubenberg Pass. The pass crossing connects Sarnen (canton of Obwalden) with Entlebuch (canton of Lucerne). At this point, the route branches off, but still sticks to the main road for a while yet. A beautiful path then crosses the Trogenegg and Miesenegg, with fantastic views of the mountains of Central Switzerland, the peaks of the Bernese Oberland and the Schrattenflue mountain.
A gravel road will soon take you to the Sattel Pass and, a bit further on, to Loo. Small trees on either side now mark the end of the road, which turns to gravel. Past the little lake below the Rubihütte cabin, you will reach Glaubenbielen after four hours.
Continue uphill to Jänzimatt, where you will find a gorgeous view of the Schrattenflue. The gravel road soon gives way to a path leading up towards Männli. Continuing along the mountain ridge towards Höch Gumme, you will approach your final destination, the Berghuis Schönbüel hotel and restaurant. At this point you can choose between carrying on for another two and a half hours until you reach the valley or enjoying the magnificent view over a nice cold drink in the evening ambience. It is also possible to make a detour to the summit of Höch Gumme. The views are unrivalled, with Lake Brienz unfurling beneath you and the Wetterhorn mountains in sight, along with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
