Prätschalp-Schneeschuhtrail
Overview
Intro
Through the forest, over dreamy clearances, up to the Alp, past Lake Upper Prätschsee: This interesting round tour offers breath-taking views over the valley of Schanfigg and the mountain landscape of Arosa time and time again.
Description
Put the hectic behind you and experience the untouched winter landscape above Arosa – the snow shoe hike Prätschalp is perfect for this purpose. It leads initially through the forest along the cross-country ski track and subsequently over the alpine tree line. Over and over, the path opens up onto a magnificent view over the elongated valley Schanfigg and the mountain landscape of Arosa.
On cozy Prätschalp, the turning point of the tour, one already managed half of the hike. In the warm season, about 100 cows of farmers from Chur spend their summer here. In winter, Prätschalp is the optimal spot for a break and some refreshment, before starting the short climb towards Lake Upper Prätschsee. Close to the lake, you will find the Guisanplatz. During the second world war, General Henri Guisan (1874-1960) participated at the 1st of August celebrations here. A commemorative plaque reminds of this historical event nowadays. The last part of the hike once again offers you something to enjoy: slightly downhill it leads back to Maran, where the local bus picks up the winter sportsmen.
Secret tipp: Don’t miss the opportunity to do this snow shoe hike to Prätschalp in a clear full moon night! When the moon turns the snow into a glittery carpet, such a hike is an untold experience.
