Intro

Through Alpine flora to the Tannalp with a dairy, guesthouse and lake. The ridge hike over Balmeregghorn with wonderful views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains is truly impressive. Muggenstutz the dwarf and a sculpture garden promise variety on the way to Meiringen. Connoisseurs will find much to love on this stage: fresh cheese, exquisite desserts – both sure to delight gourmets.

Description

Shortly after the Engstlenalp, you will pass one of the small dairies where fresh dairy products can be bought to take with you for later in the route. Those who wish can also watch the professionals making cheese to see how it's done. This will ensure you have the energy to tackle the climb up the Balmeregghorn. Once you have completed the ascent, you can look back at what you have conquered from the lofty heights of the Balmeregghorn. Spot the tranquil lakes of Melchsee, Tannensee and Engstlenalpsee far in the distance.

Along a narrow hiking trail, the route continues to the Planplatten mountain, with the impressive Jungfrau massif always in view. With a little luck, you might encounter chamois as they boisterously jump over the hiking trail. If you would prefer to give your legs a rest and avoid the long descent to Meiringen, you can take the cable car from Planplatten. Those who brave the descent can take a detour to the Schrändli Sculpture Garden. Having arrived in Meiringen, the famous local dessert should definitely be sampled: meringue. According to legend, this was invented in Meiringen by an Italian confectioner.
