Tracking down Freiberger horses
Overview
Intro
Freiberger, or Franches-Montagnes, are a unique breed of semi-feral horses from Switzerland that live in the heart of the wooded pastures of the Jura. Discover them for yourself using an interactive map to show you where the herds are. Then visit a breeding centre to find out about the lives of the women and men who have always had a passion for raising them.
New: these animals, living wild on the extensive pastures, can now be located with an online map (at home or via smartphone). Breeders enter their horses' location each day so that visitors can plan their walks accordingly. Information on numbers of horses, colts, special characteristics and owners can be consulted on the spot.
You can also book visits to the horse-breeder on the farm, where you'll learn much of interest about individual horses. You might even see a newborn foal in the farm or on the meadow.
