Gruyères / Greyerz at a glance

This is Gruyères

Gruyères (German: Greyerz) is located in western Switzerland in the Fribourg region. The pretty little town on the Sarine is a popular destination due to its castle, its museums and the show dairy .

Discover Gruyères

Stroll through the car-free town and you will discover one photo motif after another: For example, the cobblestones with the beautiful fountain, flanked by historic buildings. No matter where you stand, the view over the green hills into the Fribourg Pre-Alps is unique. Here would be the opportunity to try the traditional fondue moitié-moitié . Further towards the castle are the HR Giger Museum, creator of the alien figure and the Tibet Museum.

Gruyères Castle (Château de Gruyères)

The landmark of Gruyères takes you on a journey through eight centuries. Explore the Château de Gruyères with an audio guide or on a "fairy tale walk". The towers, the defensive walls, the castle garden, the knights' hall: It's really like a fairy tale. In addition, the castle museum houses a rich collection of art objects.

Swiss Cheese – Gruyère

High-quality cow's milk and a centuries-old recipe are the secret to the aromatic Gruyère hard cheese with the AOP label. You can watch the production live in the region's show dairies: For example, in the Maison du Gruyère or in the alpine cheese dairy on the Moléson, where the cheese is still made over a wood fire.

Around Gruyères

Two mountain railways lead to the leisure mountain of Gruyères, the Moléson. At the top you can hike, bike, ski, eat and spend the night. A trip to Lake Gruyère with a visit to the Maison Cailler chocolate factory in Broc is recommended. A little further east is Charmey with its thermal baths "Bains de la Gruyère". Tip: The "Chemin du Gruyère" combines all these sights into a pleasure hike of around twelve kilometres.
