Zurich is magical during Advent: Stroll through Christmas markets, enjoy mulled wine and fondue and marvel at the Lucy light installation on Bahnhofstrasse. For children, the "Märlitram" (fairytale tram) is a highlight.

Christmas in Zurich at a glance

During the Advent season, Zurich shines in festive splendour: Christmas markets, concerts and light installations give the city a special atmosphere. Sechseläutenplatz, Bahnhofstrasse, the main train station and the old town are festively decorated. Many offers are free of charge and easily accessible by public transport.

What you can experience

"Wiehnachtsdorf" (Christmas Village) at Bellevue

Visit the Wiehnachtsdorf, Zurich's largest Christmas market, on Sechseläutenplatz near Bellevue. Warm up with mulled wine or enjoy a fondue in the chalet. At over 100 market stalls you will discover regional, handmade, design and delicacies. There are numerous games and hands-on activities for children.

  • Good to know: The Wienachtsdorf can be easily reached by tram, bus or S-Bahn.
  • Tip: Reservations in the fondue chalet are possibleat noon and in the evening.

Walk along the illuminated Bahnhofstrasse 

The Lucy Christmas lights illuminate the Bahnhofstrasse between the main station and Bürkliplatz with thousands of LED crystals. Along the route you will find decorated shop windows, market stalls and cosy mulled wine corners. The view from Uraniastrasse towards the lake with its light reflections is particularly impressive.

  • Good to know: Walk from Bahnhofplatz in the direction of Bürkliplatz – with a view of the lake.
  • Tip: From Paradeplatz you can photograph the lighting particularly well.

Ride on the Märlitram (25 minutes)

The Märlitram is a specially decorated tram for children aged four to nine. The start is at Bellevue. During the journey, angels tell Christmas stories, Santa Claus (Santa Claus) drives the tram. The route runs along Limmatquai, Central, Bahnhofstrasse to Bürkliplatz and back to Bellevue.

  • Children are unaccompanied by their parents on the tram during the journey.
  • Tickets will be available online from mid-November.
