Thurgau and Schaffhauserland bike tour
Overview
Intro
Peaceful lakes, idyllic winegrowing areas, historic towns: a bike tour of several days from Stein am Rhein lets you experience the most beautiful aspects of the region.
Stein am Rhein is the starting-point of this bike tour. A small medieval town, it is quite resplendent with its painted facades and idyllic location right on the Rhine. It’s worth allowing a little more time here, to amble through the old town and along the river. The bike tour of several days through Eastern Switzerland starts on the Schaffhauserland route from Stein am Rhein and leads to Klettgau, where winegrowing villages and vineyards are dotted across the countryside. It’s worth visiting various winegrowing estates during the day and trying their wines, so you can enjoy your favourite in the evening. The Thurgau route continues on past lakes and ponds, with secluded spots where you should definitely take a break. At Nussbaumersee lake, for example, where you can treat yourself to a refreshing way to cool off. Then end the day in comfort with a delicious dinner and soft bed in an exceptional atmosphere at the Rappenhof in Buch near Frauenfeld or at the Kartause Ittingen Monastery Hotel. The final stage is even a bit kitschy: just like a fairytale ending, the cyclists are given a royal welcome at Herdern Castle and Freudenfels Castle.
