When Art Said «I Do»: The First-Ever Wedding at Kunsthaus Zurich Written by Felix Fay
June 14th, 2025 - a quiet milestone in Zurich’s cultural story
For the first time ever, a wedding ceremony took place inside the «Füssli» exhibition room at the Kunsthaus Zurich - right among original works that have witnessed centuries of art history.
It was a moment that felt both daring and delicate. Transforming one of Switzerland’s most respected cultural spaces into a setting for a love story required not just creativity, but diplomacy, restraint and a deep respect for place.
The Vision: When Love Meets Art
Julia & Patrik imagined something intimate yet meaningful – a ceremony that reflected their shared love for art, design and European culture. The Kunsthaus Zürich, with its quiet grandeur and architectural precision, felt like the perfect canvas.
As a destination wedding planner and partner of Switzerland Tourism, I’ve worked across the country from lakeside villas to alpine retreats, but this project redefined what it means to celebrate love in Switzerland. It wasn’t about spectacle. It was about creating emotion through simplicity, space and storytelling.
The Process: Redefining What’s Possible
Hosting a wedding in a museum means rewriting the rulebook. Every detail - from sound levels to floral materials had to align with museum-grade conservation standards. The «Füssli» room had never been adapted for a private ceremony before, so every step involved negotiation, design adaptation and precision planning.
Instead of transforming the space, we listened to it. The goal wasn’t to compete with the art, but to let the emotion of the moment belong within it. When the couple finally exchanged vows surrounded by centuries of creative legacy, the air felt still, as if the art itself was quietly approving.
The Takeaway: Innovation with Intention
This wedding taught me that innovation doesn’t always come from adding more, it often comes from designing with respect, purpose and clarity.
Switzerland offers so many extraordinary spaces where culture, architecture and emotion intersect. The Kunsthaus Zurich proved that when handled with care, even the most traditional settings can open their doors to something new and create history in the process.
