This is Thurgau
The canton of Thurgau is Switzerland's largest apple-growing region and a starting point for cycling tours along Lake Constance and Untersee. It lies in the northeast of the country and borders Germany.
Discover Thurgau
Monks lived at Ittingen Charterhouse near Frauenfeld for almost 400 years. Today, the former monastery houses a hotel and restaurant, among other facilities. At the Ittingen Museum, you can visit a monk's cell, while the monastery garden invites you to smell the roses. The future French Emperor Napoleon III spent his youth at Arenenberg Castle overlooking Untersee. At the Napoleon Museum, you can explore the family's living quarters with their original furnishings.
Cycling along Lake Constance
Explore Thurgau on around 900 kilometres of signposted cycle routes. The Rhine Route from SwitzerlandMobility follows largely flat terrain along Lake Constance, passing through Arbon and Romanshorn to Kreuzlingen. Parts of it share the same route as the Lake Constance Cycle Path, which circles the lake. To cool off, take a dip in the lake, for example at the Hörnli lido in Kreuzlingen.
Thurgau, the apple canton
Visit Thurgau in April or May and you'll see fruit trees blossoming everywhere. The Apple Trail in Altnau offers 3 routes between 2 and 4 kilometres long through the orchards. At 24 stations, puzzles and games introduce you to the world of apples. At the MoMö Museum in Arbon, discover how the Möhl cider works produces apple juice and cider. Along the way, you can buy apples and juice directly from farm shops.
Around Thurgau
Kreuzlingen borders the German city of Constance, and you can cross the border on foot. From April to October, scheduled boats take you from there to Mainau, the island of flowers. Take a boat across Untersee to Stein am Rhein, known for its painted façades. Further downstream, near Schaffhausen, are the Rhine Falls. From Romanshorn, the ferry reaches Friedrichshafen in Germany in around 45 minutes.
Experience Thurgau for less
