This is Zermatt
Zermatt is located in the southwest of Switzerland in the
canton of Valais. The car-free town is one of the most popular excursion and holiday destinations in Switzerland, especially because of the
Matterhorn.
Discover Zermatt
Zermatt’s Bahnhofstrasse is home to many cafés, restaurants, shops and souvenir shops. What stands out? The town has over 100 hotels and many chalets, but no large hotel buildings. Some hotels are the ideal place to linger over a coffee or drink. The
Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis offers exciting facts about the history and ascent of the Matterhorn and the development of Zermatt.
The Matterhorn
It is impossible to escape the majestic beauty of the
Matterhorn at 4,478 metres above sea level. You can already see the mountain from the village, for example from the church square or from the church bridge. The
Gornergrat boasts one of the best views of Switzerland's landmark. The view from the
Sunnegga or the Rothorn is just as magnificent. An ascent of the Matterhorn should only be attempted by experienced alpinists.
Natural paradise in summer and winter
Zermatt is a natural paradise in every season and offers a variety of hiking trails with different levels of difficulty. Whether you choose the Sunnegga–Blauherd route, the challenging trail to the Hörnlihütte or the
Zermatt 5-Lakes Trail, you can experience the beauty of Zermatt’s natural amenities on every hike, mountain tour or one of the many bike trails. In winter, 360 kilometres of slopes await you in the varied ski areas of Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Stockhorn and Schwarzsee.
Around Zermatt
Zermatt is an ideal starting point for outdoor activities of all kinds. Biking, climbing, mountain tours or of course hiking. The area around the
Gornergrat is ideal for hikes of all levels of difficulty. Here you will experience a diverse hiking paradise, of course with an excellent view of the
Matterhorn. Just as spectacular: the Alpine beauty of the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise.
