The Palais des Nations in Geneva was built between 1929 and 1938 and is the second largest UN seat in the world after New York. Located in Ariana Park, it is home to over 25 international organisations. Around 8000 conferences take place here every year. The monumental building complex symbolises international cooperation.

Walk in Ariana Park

The Ariana Park surrounds the Palais des Nations and offers you a green oasis with centuries-old trees, works of art and monuments. Stroll through the extensive grounds, discover sculptures and enjoy the view of Lake Geneva and the Alps. The park is freely accessible and ideal for a break.

  • Good to know: The park is open daily and admission is free.
  • Tip: You can also visit the nearby Ariana Museum of Ceramics and Glass.

Visit the Broken Chair

In front of the main entrance of the Palais des Nations, you will come across the "Broken Chair" – a 12-meter-high chair with a broken leg. The sculpture symbolises the fight against landmines and cluster munitions. It is one of the most photographed monuments in Geneva and an impressive sign of peace and human rights.

  • Good to know: The sculpture is located on the Place des Nations and is freely accessible.
  • Tip: Visit the Broken Chair early in the morning.
