Intro
The Dent d'Hérens offers one of the most spectacular climbs of a four-thousander. The mountain overlooked by the Matterhorn is part of the Grenzkamm ridge on the Swiss–Italian border.
A seldom visited four-thousander in Valais. Whether that’s down to its location in the shadow of the Matterhorn or its extremely challenging ascent is unclear. The Schönbiel Hut and the Aosta Hut offer two starting points for the ascent. The ascent over the eastern ridge of the Dent d'Hérens is one of the most spectacular ascents of a four-thousander. Together with the Matterhorn and the Tête de Valpelline, the Dent d'Hérens makes up the Grenzkamm ridge on the Swiss–Italian border.
