Medieval Market in Stein am Rhein
Overview
Intro
Visit the charming medieval market within the ancient walls of the former Benedictine abbey at St. Georgen Monastery in Stein am Rhein.
Visit Switzerland’s most atmospheric medieval market, set within the ancient walls of the former Benedictine Abbey of St. Georgen, which was built around 1007 A.D. Step back in time to a world from over 500 years ago and experience how people traded, went about their daily work, and celebrated Christmas back then. Listen to the festive sounds of clay flutes, or watch, for example, the blacksmith forge hot iron. At the costume maker’s stall, you can slip into medieval garments or watch the firemaker at work. Have a chat with the furrier or watch as Torgus Caturix’s warriors fight with their swords. Medieval food and drinks are also served, and you can purchase the occasional Christmas gift from times long past.
