In \*Orwell: 2 + 2 = 5\*, Raoul Peck explores George Orwell’s final year through the lens of his essay “Why I Write.” Blending archival footage, film clips, and contemporary imagery, the director (VDR’s guest of honor in 2025) transforms the genesis of the famous novel \*1984\* into a striking mirror of our own times. Driven by masterful editing, the film seamlessly weaves a dialogue between Orwell’s words and our present. More than seventy years after his death, his reflections resonate with a force and relevance that are deeply unsettling.
