Explore Zug by bike
Overview
Intro
Hop on your bike and explore the Zug region. You don’t need much for your adventure: just put on your bike helmet, saddle up and off you go. From exciting bike trails to leisurely bike tours, the Zug region has something for everyone. To round the day off, enjoy a dip in the refreshing waters and an aperitif as the sun goes down.
The best way to explore the Zug region is by bike. Marked bike routes lead from the city centre to the rural regions. If you prefer a more leisurely pace, you can take a round trip around Lake Zug or into the nearby hills. For more ambitious cyclists, the Morgarten loop is the ideal destination. The 70-kilometre tour takes you from the old town into the surrounding hills, past the memorial at the site of the Battle of Morgarten, through the Rothenthurm moor protected zone and the magical Lorze ravine. Experience a piece of historic Switzerland.
Whether by pedal power on a road bike, mountain bike or gravel bike or taking things more leisurely on an e-bike, all excursions have one thing in common. Each tour ends in the picturesque old town of Zug with its dolce vita. Walking through the historic alleyways, you quickly get a sense of the town’s vibrant atmosphere. The colourful facades, angular bay windows and cosy alleyways make you feel at ease and evoke that holiday feeling.
You can enjoy a well-earned dip at one of the numerous lidos along the shores of Lake Zug. Just outside the town, Tellenörtli Lido offers visitors a large sunbathing area with shady trees and wonderful views of the Alpine panorama. The perfect way to end the evening is with an aperitif at Zunfthaus Kreuz. Everything here is homemade, from the bread and ice cream to the puff pastry used in its vanilla slice. The culinary delights and first-class lakeside location are trumped only by the spectacular sunset, said to be the most beautiful in Switzerland.
How to get there: The town of Zug is easily accessible by public transport. It takes around 25 minutes from Zurich and 20 minutes from Lucerne by train.
