Vevey lake promenade
Overview
Intro
Walk along Lake Geneva in Vevey in the Canton of Vaud, past bronze Charlie Chaplin and a giant fork in the water. In summer, you can lie down on the wooden decks by the lake, with a view of the Valais Dents du Midi mountain range.
The Vevey lake promenade at a glance
The Vevey lakeside promenade runs along the shores of Lake Geneva from Grande Place via Quai Perdonnet to Quai Roussy in La Tour-de-Peilz. Charlie Chaplin's bronze sculpture stands between colourful flower beds, benches invite you to take a break. Just behind the traffic-free lakeside promenade, the old town with its alleys begins.
What to experience
Walk along the lakeside promenade (45-60 minutes)
From the Grande Place, walk along the Quai Perdonnet to the statue of Charlie Chaplin. He spent the last 25 years of his life in the region. A few steps further on, an 8-metre-high fork stands in the lake in front of the Alimentarium food museum. Continue along Quai Roussy to the castle of La Tour-de-Peilz.
- Good to know: The Alimentarium is located directly on the promenade. Closed on Mondays.
- Tip: Visit the Swiss Game Museum in the castle.
Swimming on the city beach in summer
The Vevey Deck is for everyone: From mid-May to the end of September, wooden decks transform the Quai Perdonnet into a city beach. Lie down under a free parasol, enjoy the summer lifestyle and look out over Lake Geneva to the Alps. You can cool off directly in the lake and you will also find ice cream and drink stands on the promenade.
- Good to know: The bathing areas are unsupervised.
- Tip: There are more wooden decks on the Quai Roussy in neighbouring La Tour-de-Peilz.
Visit the market on the Grande Place
On Tuesday and Saturday mornings, there are numerous market stalls on the Grande Place near the lakeshore. You will find regional specialties, fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers as well as cheese, meat and fish at the market. On the square stands the historic grain hall La Grenette, behind which the alleys of the old town of Vevey begin.
- Good to know: From Vevey train station, you can reach the Grande Place in about 6 minutes on foot.
- Tip: East of the city begin the vineyards of Lavaux, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
