Intro
Dischma, the longest Davos side valley - with relaxing journey’s leg via Teufi along the Dischmabach stream and over grasslands. Pretty Maiensäss reminds one of the original landscapes of the Walser folk - where early summer sees carpets of flowers adorn the hiking path.
Description
If you’ve completed stage 7, this hike is practically a walk in the park: only 70 metres of elevation gain need to be tackled, and the total hiking time is around three hours.
The starting point is by Alp Dürrboden, tucked away in the Dischma Valley and surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery. It’s the last starting point for crossing the Scaletta Pass, which had a fierce rivalry with the Flüela Pass during the 17th and 18th centuries. Cattle, salt from Tyrol and Venice and wine from the Veltin region were transported over the pass. But, with the expansion of the Alpine roads between, from 1850 muleteering lost its importance.
The leg doesn’t follow the route of the pass, but instead proceeds along the Dischmabach stream towards Davos. The Dischma Valley is Davos’ longest side valley. You soon reach the Jenatschalp, followed by Teufi at approximately the halfway mark. The Alpine huts recall the original land rights of the Walser people. In early summer, the hiking experience is accompanied by a colourful floral splendour.
After just over an hour continuing down towards the valley, the leg ends in Davos at an altitude of 1,560 metres. Davos is the highest lying town in the Alps as well as the largest mountain holiday, sports and conference resort. It’s no surprise, then, that it’s home to no end of flower-adorned chalets and Alpine charm.
