Rona Bike
Overview
Intro
The «Roman Trail» is a gentle tour. It is not too difficult and is suitable for inexperienced bikers or families. The tour derived its name from the archaeological sites close to its path.
Description
The tour starts at the parking lot of the Savognin mountain cableways. The pleasant trail is relatively flat and leads along the Julia River to Tinizong. The elongated village is situated slightly above the right bank of the river. It is the upper-most village of the Sotgôt area. A tree-covered slope, caused by a mountain slide, separates the two parts of the valley into Sotgôt and Surgôt. After a turn-off near the Tinizong soccer field the path gets a bit steeper.
Across the river the trail continues in the shade of the forest to Rona. In winter this is a cross-country ski trail. In Rona we cross the bridge first, then the main road. Keeping to the left through the village we follow the trail back to Tinizong.
Now comes a relaxing part of the tour. The section between Rona and Tinizong is also known as the Roman Road because of the archaeological findings of that time. In Vardaval, after crossing the main road again, a pleasant trail leads gently downhill along the Julia River and back to Savognin.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
