Intro
From the bustling Rossberg ski area, you are plunged immediately into a tranquil little fairytale world. First, take time to enjoy the mood in the forest; and then a small valley opens up with views of the Oberwil mountains: pure nature!
Description
Set out from the parking area for the Rossberg ski area: right at the start, the trail takes you past the only intact sawmill left in the Simmen Valley that still uses water power to saw the wood. Cross the stream and climb a short distance to reach the entrance to the forest. From here, the trail ascends continuously for a while – but amid this magnificent forest scenery, you will move with almost no effort at all. If you listen carefully, you might hear the joyful laughter of children coming from the nearby Rössli Park, where the little ones are doing their laps on skis.
On leaving the forest section behind, you cross the slope towards Schönebode. You are now in the middle of the Vorholzallmend, one of Switzerland's largest Alpine pastures. Directly opposite, you can watch the skiers as they sweep down the blue run in the ski area. After traversing the pasture, you reach Schönebode mountain lodge. Once you have crossed the stream, you can opt to switch to the shorter snowshoe trail and start trekking towards your destination already. Or you can stay on the main route, as described here. After the fork, it climbs again past huge fir trees. You may very well encounter some tourers here, because this region is famed for ski touring.
On reaching the highest point, pause to admire the lovely view of the Oberwil mountains. Then you cross the stream again – at a spot that cries out to be photographed. You can already see the descent before you: you can choose a comfortable pace or put on a turn of speed as you head down to the ski run. You cross it briefly twice before reaching your destination near the Rossberg ski area again.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
