Intro

If you want to recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the pistes, this snowshoe trail offers the chance to do just that in the gorgeous Eriztal valley. With views of the Hohgant, Trogenhorn and Sieben Hengste mountains, you will get to know the fabulous Rotmoos moorland.

Description

Eriztal is part of the long Zulgtal valley and forms the border between the Emmental valley and the Bernese Oberland. Here, well off the beaten track, you can savour the serenity of winter – by hiking in your snowshoes, for example. This athletic trail starts at the winter sports centre not far from the Säge PostBus stop heading towards Hindere Sohl. After a short climb, you will cross the Fallbach stream, which has its source between the Hohgant and Sieben Hengste and flows through Innereriz to Zulg. On the opposite side of the valley, the route continues at a gentle incline. Crossing the stream once again, you will arrive at the handsome buildings of Alp Drüschhubel, located in the foothills of the Trogenhorn.

Past the Alp, the trail runs along the main road past holiday accommodation before branching off shortly afterwards. It climbs round multiple bends through open terrain until you reach Obere Breitwang, the highest point of this route. From here there is a magnificent view over the valley, with Emmental in the distance. If the weather is fine, this scenic spot is also ideal for taking a longer break while you take in the views.

Over the gently sloping ridge, the trail descends to the Rotmoos, which is listed in Switzerland’s “Federal inventory of moorlands of particular beauty and national importance”. The snow-covered, semi-open terrain hints at what a special place this must be in the summer, when it is alive with all kinds of insects, and rare plants such as the marsh cinquefoil and felwort can be found. But the view is also enchanting in winter, even when blanketed in snow.

As part of the summer hiking trail, you will cross the Rotmoos and return to Innereriz via Hänsgtli and Dräcker. In winter, there are various places to get refreshments here.

An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
