Schlittelbahn Weissenberge–Matt
Overview
Intro
If you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, Weissenberge is just the place: this twisting sledge ride through the wild Chrauchbach Gorge to the village of Matt certainly packs a punch and is rightly nicknamed “the outrageous toboggan run”.
Description
From Matt, a cable car runs up about 400 metres to the permanent Walser settlement of Weissenberge, which stands proudly on its sun terrace high above the village of 400 inhabitants. Those seeking peace and relaxation can take leisurely walks from here and enjoy the silence of nature.
For fun and action, though, they should try a toboggan ride through the Chrauchbach Gorge. The sledge has to be pulled on foot for a few minutes from the mountain station of the Matt-Weissenberge cable car to the Wirtschaft zum Weissenberg, where the steep and varied downhill run begins. After starting in the open, sledgers soon enter the snowy pine forest and spiral deeper and deeper into the gorge, crossing bridges and passing spectacular rock faces and icefalls that line the edge of the toboggan run like organ pipes. It takes about a quarter of an hour to reach the village of Matt.
Thanks to its even gradient and “mean” hairpin bends, the run is particularly appreciated by sporting sledgers. The best time for tobogganing is in the morning, when there are no bumps on the course.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
