There is a lot to discover on this hike to Lake Schwellisee: besides other things, you will find a lovely mountain lake and the cultural highlights of Arosa.
Description
From Innerarosa, the path leads past the restaurant Alpenblick into the middle of the skiing region. Through snowy winter landscapes Lake Schwellisee will be reached, which is – at least in summer – as clear as glass. Due to its form, the lake remembers of an ivy leaf. The whole area around the lake was once surrounded by arolla pines. Walser cleared the trees, so only a few pines testify from back then.
The lake marks the turning point of the hike. The path leads now back to the village. Shortly before reaching the end of the hike, you pass the local history museum at house Eggahuus, built around 1600. The collections include a weaving loom, stuffed animals and even a «sports department» with old skis and sledges. If you still have time, take a detour from here to the mountain chapel (Bergkirchli), which is just 300 metres away, a little above the village. It's the oldest building of Arosa. In the wood covered tower of this late Gothic church, which measures 10m in height, the bells from 1492 are still hanging. From the sunny benches outside, one can furthermore enjoy a wonderful view to Mt. Erzhorn and Mt. Aroser Rothorn.
