Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis
Overview
Intro
Under the village square, the museum makes a world of powerful pictures and incredible stories come alive with the staged archeological excavation “Zermatlantis“.
You wander in subterranean rooms through authentic mountain huts and hear the wind roaring on the mountain: the museum of Zermatlantis in the heart of the village Zermatt lets visitors immerse themselves in the adventurous events that took place on the Matterhorn. And it narrates a great deal about the thrilling and turbulent history of the world-famous mountain, from its African origin to the dramatic first ascent, till the present day.
Subsequently, it is clear to all: the world-famous emblem of Switzerland is not just famous thanks to a distinctive summit, but due to the alpinists that continuously sought out new challenges along its flanks. Innumerable mountaineers have ascended the summit in the 148 years that have passed since Edward Whimper first climbed the proud mountain.
