On the Il Spir wooden walkway, you stand high above the Rhine Gorge and look out over the Anterior Rhine that winds below you. You can reach the platform near Flims through the Flimserwald and past Lake Cauma or Lake Cresta.
The observation platform Il Spir at a glance
The Il Spir viewing platform is located near Conn above Flims in the canton of Graubünden, about 400 metres above the Anterior Rhine. Its name means "swift" in Romansh. The triangular construction by architect Corinna Menn rests on two pillars and leans over the Ruinaulta Rhine Gorge, the "Swiss Grand Canyon".

View the "Swiss Grand Canyon"
Your gaze falls down into the approximately 13-kilometre-long Ruinaulta, where the Anterior Rhine flows between gravel banks and pine trees. White limestone walls rise up to 300 meters high. Around 10,000 years ago, the largest landslide in the Alps buried the valley here. Since then, the Rhine has been digging its way through the debris.
- Good to know: Even if you are slightly afraid of heights, part of the platform can be walked on.
- Tip: Take the Rhaetian Railway through the valley and experience the wild gorge up close.
Hike through the Flims Forest to the platform (45 minutes)
From the Flims Waldhaus station, a forest path leads you to the turquoise blue Caumasee, which is considered one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland. From there, walk slightly uphill to Conn and the Il Spir platform. The path is suitable for prams and is ideal for families.
- Good to know: In the high season, admission to Lake Cauma is subject to a fee.
- Tip: After visiting the platform, continue hiking to Lake Cresta and Trin Mulin.
