Alp Flix Bike
Overview
Intro
The main object of this tour is the high plateau Alp Flix above the village Sur. Originally, a Roman way, the tour passes through this high moor, which is of national significance. The fantastic descent adds a further highlight to the tour.
Description
The beautiful tour is technically not so demanding, but is combined with the long ascent to Alp Flix high moor. Along the Julia River the route climbs gently uphill past Tinizong, the last village of the Sotgôt (below the forest) area, which is perched on a terrace. South of it the tree-covered part of the valley begins that separates the Sotgôt from the Surgôt (above the forest). Continuing uphill on a forest road the bikers reach Rona.
After crossing the river Julia (also called Gelgia), there’s another ascent through the forest. On the last third of the trail, you tackle several hairpin bends and continue across the mountain stream Ava dallas Cuorts up towards Alp Flix, also known as a “treasure island of biodiversity”. The high plateau comprises a moor landscape of national importance, pine forests, meadows vibrant with colour and it also offers a view of Piz Platta. Time on the restaurant’s comfortable terrace seems to stand still. Optional additional loop for those who go to Alp Flix: don’t miss the opportunity to see the lakes. Simply follow the trail in the direction of Tgalucas. It passes a group of Mongolian yurts on the way to the lakes (approx. 600 m).
For a while the downhill ride initially follows the route going up. You cross the village of Sur which is situated somewhat off the Julier pass road on a south-facing slope. Mulegns is found in a narrow valley at the confluence of the Fallerbach stream and the rushing Julia. The Julier road winds its way through the houses of the village. The route alternates between the left and the right bank of the Julia River. From Rona, the trail makes another detour via Plaz Beischen into the Val Mulegna. The route consists of forest paths and single trails. Various finds from the Roman and Bronze Ages have been discovered in the area. Near Rudnal there is a site where a prehistoric refuge is supposed to have been found. From there it is only a short distance back to Savognin.
An enjoyable tour includes the careful planning of the same. Please inform yourself in advance at the local information center about the route and weather conditions. Depending on the season and weather conditions, this route may be blocked or interrupted
