Intro

Delivering the large quantities of data, including images, data sources and texts in 14 languages, in high quality is one of the major challenges facing MySwitzerland.com. In order to maintain the high quality and reduce the manual workload, many recurring processes have been reviewed and, where appropriate, automated. For Switzerland Tourism experts, the system contains a variety of tools to significantly increase productivity.

Integrated translation process

The content on MySwitzerland.com is available in up to 14 different languages. An efficient translation process is therefore crucial. Since the relaunch, the editors have been able to commission and monitor translations in the CMS directly. The translated content is then returned to the CMS fully automatically, where it is manually reviewed, then released and published. This integrated process not only significantly reduces expenses, but also lead times and miscommunications. Thanks to the use of a translation memory system, duplicate translations are avoided.

Automated image delivery

Artificial intelligence is used to operate the visually striking and inspirational website containing over 400,000 images. In back-end processes, editors only manage one image per teaser or page in each case. The final image that appears on the page is calculated and cropped while the page is being loaded to adjust to the screen size and the size of the component. The image is cropped fully automatically with the help of machine learning algorithms, whereby artificial intelligence ensures that the correct section of the image is selected and that the visual elements essential to the message are identified and retained. In addition, the image delivery service Cloudinary determines the image format (JPEG, PNG, WebP) and the image quality level (e.g. 75%) fully automatically and dynamically.

Quality gate

MySwitzerland.com is a compilation of tourist information about Switzerland from a variety of sources. To ensure a high level of quality on the platform, the data is automatically validated based on configurable rule sets at the time of import. Data that does not meet the requirements will not be imported. If individual data sets are rejected, this must be communicated to those responsible for the data sources. In order to make this process as efficient as possible, the editors have a web interface which shows which sources supply invalid content. A drill-down can be used to determine exactly which data sets were rejected and why. The source data can be copied at the push of a button and those responsible for the source informed. This makes the troubleshooting process easier and more centralised.

User-generated content

Maintaining high-quality, up-to-date and credible content is a lot of work. Thanks to the sophisticated integration of social media content, Switzerland Tourism can rely on influencers from all over the world. Images are collected using a SaaS solution (ContentFry) from the social media channels for this purpose. This collection of images is updated daily via an automatic data import and integrated into the site. This allows tourists to see up-to-the-minute pictures of Switzerland’s main attractions. The quality of the images is so good that they are shown even before ST’s own images in the Media Gallery!
