Want to shoot perfect pictures of the night sky? Great! Our photographer André Meier has put together his top tips to help you along the way:

  • It’s best to use a tripod to prevent blurring.
  • Disable image stabilisation to ensure it doesn’t cause any unwanted interference.
  • Use a remote shutter release or the timer function to keep your photos free of any vibrations.
  • Use manual focus, since autofocus is often not good enough for this type of photography.
  • Take your photographs in RAW format, as this will allow you to take care of the white balance later.
  • Increase the ISO number and open the aperture to capture as much light as possible.
  • Set the time exposure setting to allow for long exposure times.
  • If you are using your mobile phone to take photos, select the new Night Mode.
  • Take pictures at twilight to capture beautiful lighting moods.
