Even though one normally spends night in bed, it would be a shame not to at least throw a glance outside if one happens to spend the night at the Mountain Hotel First. The view is not only spectacular during the day, but is even fascinating at night.
While during the day the snow and ice of Mounts Schreckhorn, Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau reflect the glittering sun, at night the atmosphere is different. Now the moon bathes everything in a calmly muted light and stars twinkle in the far. One can see the lights of mountain huts high up and if one is lucky, one may even spy a bivouac in a promontory of the Eiger North Face, where a climber has decided to spend the night.
Getting to the large Mountain Hotel First (2167 m.a.s.l.) is easy to reach: simply take a 20-minute aerial cable-car ride. It is an ideal place to use as base for numerous mountain hikes towards the Faulhorn, Klettersteig Schwarzhorn oder Grosse Scheidegg. Also many paragliders jump off here. Lodging is in comfortable dormitories.
How to get there:
Drive or take public transportation from Bern or Luzern to Grindelwald via Interlaken. In Grindelwald take the aerial cable-car to First.
