Arth-Goldau is known as an important railway hub and the starting point of the cogwheel railway up Mount Rigi. The village belongs to the municipality of Arth in the canton of Schwyz and lies in Central Switzerland between Lake Zug and Lake Lauerz.

Around the railway station, you'll find a village rebuilt after one of the most devastating landslides in Swiss history. At the Goldau Landslide Experience Hall, you can experience the disaster through a simulation. Just a few minutes' walk away, Goldau Nature and Animal Park lies amid the former debris field. On the shores of Lake Zug, you can swim at the Arth lakeside bathing area or take a boat trip. The cogwheel railway takes you up Mount Rigi.
Mount Rigi, the region's landmark
Mount Rigi is known as the "Queen of the Mountains" and is the region's landmark. One of Europe's oldest cogwheel railways takes you directly to Rigi Kulm at around 1,800 metres. From the summit, you can see 13 Swiss lakes and the Alps. Around 120 kilometres of hiking trails lead from the mountain station back down into the valley, for example to Vitznau.
Goldau Nature and Animal Park
Goldau Nature and Animal Park lies among the rocks left by the historic landslide and is one of Switzerland's scientifically managed zoos. Wild animals such as wolves, lynx, bears and Alpine ibex live here in natural surroundings. A circular trail brings you particularly close to the animals. Families can also enjoy playgrounds and a petting zoo.
Around Arth-Goldau
Just a few minutes to the east lies Lake Lauerz, with the small island of Schwanau and its castle ruins. You can swim, kayak or hike around the lake. To the northwest stretches Lake Zug, which you can explore on a boat trip. The towns of Schwyz and Lucerne are both a short train journey from Arth-Goldau.
