No visit to the Lugano region would be complete without a cruise on Lake Lugano to the traditional lakeside villages of Ticino. Now this journey can be made in sustainable fashion. Società Navigazione del Lago di Lugano offers round trips on the MNE Ceresio 1931, Switzerland’s first fully electric motor cruiser. Every weekday, its Green Line Cruise service connects Lugano with San Rocco and the historic fishing village of Gandria.
The MNE Ceresio 1931 has been chugging silently across the lake since November 1931 and is the heart of the Green Line. It is the first electric motor cruiser on Lake Lugano and Lake Ceresio, having been fully electrified. This fast-charging vessel is considered the first zero-emission electric motor vessel in Switzerland. It is powered by two 225 kW electric motors and lithium batteries weighing 6,000 kilos. The SNL navigation company plans to retrofit all of its 13 vessels with electric motors by 2035.
