New Stones, Newton's Tones
Tony Cragg was born at Liverpool in 1949. During the 1980s, he created installations from everyday objects and garbage as a way of examining how humans influence nature. "New Stones, Newton's Tones" is a mosaic of colourful pieces of plastic which he found on the beach. The work brings Newton's spectrum to mind: spread out on the floor of the exhibition room, arranged according to their colours, the pieces of beach debris make a poetic allusion to archaeology of an everyday kind.
