Easter in Bern: "Eiertütschete" at the Kornhausplatz
Overview
Intro
Every Easter Sunday from 10:00 a.m. the traditional "Eiertütschete" takes place on the Korn-hausplatz, in the middle of Bern's old town.
According to stories, the Bernese Easter custom has been practiced for over a hundred years. It was first mentioned at the end of the 19th century by Hans Eggimann, a painter, illustrator and architect from Berne.
And this is how it works: Everyone takes their own hard-boiled and colorfully painted Easter eggs and challenges their opponents in the "Eiertütschete". The eggs are smashed on top of each other and the one that withstands the opponent's attack and does not break wins. Egg by egg, you fight your way through the up to a hundred people present. Winner:in the round receives in each case the opposing (well noticed zebrechene!) Egg.
No registration is necessary: just drop by at 10:00 a.m., join in or watch.
