900e de l'abbaye du lac de Joux
Overview
Intro
Medieval festival to mark the 900th anniversary of the arrival of the Premonstratensian monks at the Abbey of Lac de Joux
The village of L'Abbaye invites young and old alike to a three-day medieval festival to celebrate two significant events in the village's history:
* In 1126, monks from the Premonstratensian order settled in what is now the village, which takes its name from the monastery built there at the time.
* In 1326, the community built the Abbey Tower, the oldest monument in the region, which still watches over the village to this day.
The festivities include: medieval market, medieval medicine workshop, weapon rack, presentation of torture devices, chain mail, coinage bench, axe throwing, arquebus and archery demonstrations, medieval combat, horse riding, face painting for children, giant games, goose herding, French language storytelling, blacksmithing, bread making, concerts, tower tours, medieval banquet, Premonstratensian conference (with a delegation from Rome), ...
Free event, with the exception of the medieval banquet, the fondue evening and the tower tours
