Maja Ruznic "Who Tastes Fire and Cannot Speak"
Overview
Intro
To coincide with Art Basel, Contemporary Fine Arts presents "Who Tastes Fire and Cannot Speak", the first solo exhibition of artist Maja Ruznic at the Basel gallery.
Contemporary Fine Arts is pleased to present "Who Tastes Fire and Cannot Speak", the first solo exhibition of Bosnia and Herzegovina-born, New Mexico-based artist Maja Ruznic at the Basel gallery. Ruznic explores how paintings can create a space for the subconscious and the unsaid. Her works situate emotions and traumas within the body and in architectural metaphors, where elusiveness and asymmetry reflect a constant realignment of the psyche. The exhibition connects her personal experiences of fleeing the Bosnian War with universal themes of displacement and highlights how language reaches its limits. This creates a space in which darkness is part of the equilibrium, silence conveys knowledge, and the canvases deliberately refrain from offering simple answers.
