MOTÈ – Men's Voices Basel
Overview
Intro
The Basel Men's Choir, conducted by David Rossel, and cellist Gunta Ābele will perform motets by Mendelssohn, Poulenc, Galina Grigorjeva, and Paul Schaller.
The program is entirely devoted to the motet, one of the oldest genres of sacred vocal music. Within it, movement, words, the sacred, and humanity intersect—four themes celebrated in the motets of Galina Grigoryeva, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Francis Poulenc, and Paul Schaller. The archaic choral sound of Männerstimmen Basel meets a wordless cello: between rapture and silence, the inexpressible, the immeasurable, and the imperishable resound—music that moves the soul.
