The Rhine—Lifeline of a Region: A Special Exhibition with Field Trips to the “Rheinhölzle”
The successful special exhibition “The Rhine—Lifeline of a Region,” which opened last September, will be further explored on Saturday, July 18, 2026, during the 5th Museum Day on Saturday, July 18, 2026, with engaging guided tours that delve deeper into the subject matter and are vividly complemented by excursions to the “Rheinhölzle.”
Thematic highlights include, among other things, the restoration projects. The excursions also address other themes of the exhibition, such as the Rhine’s function as a border river, as an international transport route, and its significance in the context of energy production.
Especially during the summer vacation season, many people from near and far enjoy the Rhine as a place of relaxation, refreshment, and inner balance. The exhibition “The Rhine—Lifeline of a Region,” which has been on view at the Museum im Zeughaus since September 20, 2026, offers the opportunity to get to know the Rhine from a broader perspective. It has indeed been a lifeline for all of us for centuries and is therefore an integral part of our region’s development.
Anyone who would like to explore this topic in more depth is cordially invited to visit this special exhibition on July 18, 2026, under the guidance of an expert, and to deepen their knowledge.
This attractive offer is complemented by the opportunity to participate in a professionally guided excursion to the recently renaturalized “Rheinhölzle.” The maximum walking time is 30 minutes. Participants will be transported free of charge by the museum from the Zeughaus to the “Laag” and back again. The excursion is suitable for both children and adults.
