In a striking building, the Geneva Museum of Ethnography (MEG) houses an extensive ethnographic collection with over 75,000 objects from all over the world. The museum in the Jonction district was awarded the European Museum of the Year Award in 2017, one of the most prestigious awards for museums in Europe.
What to experience
The permanent exhibition "The Archives of Human Diversity"
In the large permanent exhibition from the collection's holdings, you stand in front of over 1000 selected objects from 5 continents. Masks, instruments, everyday and cult objects take you around the world. The exhibition makes the origin of the pieces and also their colonial contexts visible.
- Good to know: Admission to the permanent exhibition is free of charge.
- Tip: In the museum's café you can fortify yourself before or after the tour.
Visit the special exhibitions
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Museum of Ethnography Geneva (MEG) regularly shows changing special exhibitions. These address social and global issues and are often scenographically elaborately prepared.
- Good to know: Admission to the special exhibition is subject to a fee.
- Tip: Admission is free every first Sunday of the month.
