One of the most beautiful and perhaps most impressive mountain lakes can be reached by gondola from Kandersteg. The gondola also carries walkers looking to hike over the Hohtürli pass into the Kiental valley.
For 60 years, people sat sideways in the open two-seater chair lift, enjoying direct views of the Doldenhorn as they were carried up towards Lake Oeschinen. Today, guests are whisked up the mountain in modern, colourful eight-seater gondola cabins. From the upper station you can enjoy wonderful views of the Lake Oeschinen valley basin and across the valley from Kandersteg to the Wildstrubel and Lohner.
It is a 25-minute stroll to the lake, or you can take an electric taxi. Lake Oeschinen marks the western gateway to the Jungfrau Aletsch Unesco World Heritage site.
A thrilling summer toboggan run is located right next to the upper station – quite the change of pace after the tranquillity of the mountain lake. Further information
