Intro

The stage goes from Zweisimmen further into the Pays-d'Enhaut via Schönried and the historical village of Saanen. Numerous viewpoints and excursion tips encourage you to spend some time in the adventure-packed destination of Gstaad. You’ll be enticed to spend an enjoyable and delicious break to savor local products from dairies, butchers and bakers, as well as to sample the fare offered by cosy restaurants.

Tip 1: Zweisimmen

The homely village in the Bernese Oberland is the gateway to the world-renowned destination of Gstaad. Zweisimmen lies at the base of a wide valley and is one of the ten villages that make up the destination of Gstaad. The Rinderberg cable car goes straight from the centre of the village to the biggest part of the winter sports region of Gstaad, which makes it the ideal starting point for extensive skiing experiences in winter and hiking in summer.

Tip 2: Saanenmöser and Schönried

Saanenmöser and Schönried are perched on the sun terrace of Gstaad Region. The chalet villages are a paradise for connoisseurs as well as winter and summer sports lovers. Hotel Kernen in Schönried is just the place to stop for a tasty morning snack, from which you can take in the plateau of Schönried and beautiful views of Gstaad.

Tip 3: Gstaad

If you turn left after Schönried at Hotel HUUS, you’ll find one of the best photo spots of the Grand Tour of Switzerland. A picture says more than a thousand words – back on the main road, the trip carries on towards Saanen and Gstaad. A stop on the car-free promenade in Gstaad is definitely worthwhile,  and not just because of the traditional chalets – you’ll be bowled over by the great shops.

Tip 4: Lauenensee

The Lauenensee in the Louwene Valley with its silted areas, marshland, reed belts, cotton grass roots and dark clusters of fir trees is a unique paradise for aquatic birds. You can bask in the nature and tranquillity while enjoying a delicious picnic at this special place, or have lunch in the restaurant.

Tip 5: Saanen

After a break, it’s time to make your way back towards Gstaad and then on to Saanen – the end of the stage. Strolling through the chalet village of Saanen is definitely recommended. Saanen lies at 1,010m and forms the historical heart of the Saanenland Region along with its pretty chalet villages. The village is listed in the Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites. Tradition, artistic handicrafts and a rich history are what gives Saanen its special charm.
