Intro

The views from the platform between Appenzell country and the St. Gallen Rhine Valley are striking, as is the ridge towards Kreuzberge. Since 1964, the cable car from Brülisau (bus from Weissbad) has run directly to the summit. A revolving restaurant with a sun terrace also stands on the extended platform as well as a circular trail around the summit which allows spectacular panoramic views over six countries.

Informative panorama boards and free telescopes with integrated peak identification explain the wider surroundings. Take a stroll or guided tour through the summit's Alpine garden and discover more than 300 species of Alpstein plants. A wheelchair-friendly panoramic trail with attractive viewing spots now leads in a large arc around the restaurant.

The newly created geologic hike also commences on the Hoher Kasten, explaining the shaping, folds and fractures of the rocky terrain on a total 17 boards. Gondola-style rail leads from Stauberenkanzel to the Rhine Valley – with the geological path leading further afar, via Saxerlücke to the Fählensee lake (total 3 hours 30 min).
